Listen in as Meri St. Mary talks with Val Denham an artist/musician/poet from Bradford (Vallanda) UK. In this hour we cover the waterfront, so to speak, on a number of interesting events in Val’s life as an artist from the distant past to now! Val’s body of artwork is extensive both visually & musically: this year a book will be released entitled “Dysphoria” where you can peruse & ponder her works at yer leisure (a CD w/the same title will be released as well). Chatting with Val is a fun informative visit into the personality of a creative genius that is challenging to put into words & rather difficult to articulate so I will give you several queries (the answers lie in the interview) after which you will receive a prize! Why was headmaster Mr. Taylor concerned w/young Val enough to merit a visit to his office? What book would Val save from her library in case of a fire? Why was Val’s artwork deemed so disturbing that 2 detectives found her to be a “person of interest” in the Yorkshire Ripper case? What is it about the horrifying & dark side of the human psyche that obsesses & influences Val’s work?
How did Auntie Betty’s picture cards from tea packets spark Val’s color fixation that exists to this day? How does one imagine smelling a strawberry? Why does Val thank the stars for estrogen? What & where does “Caligula On Acid” come from? How does an obsessive/compulsive deal w/dust? Why did Genesis P-Orridge get freaked out by a letter from Val? On whose albums has Val’s artwork appeared? Who wrote the forward to her new book? How many CD’s has Val released & with whom has she collaborated? If you are going to San Francisco why must you guard your Val Denham CD’s with your life? How long has Val been married & to whom & is she father/mother or both? All this & more, more, more PLUS original music from Val: “I Want Your Sex”, “City Lights” & “Thinking About My Girl” as well as an impromptu “Meri St. Mary Intro” song she gifted me with that is The Underground Sound’s new theme song! So here’s the prize: when you find yourself stumped in a conversation simple repeat this phrase: “IT’S A DUMMY & IT’S FULL OF CONCRETE”!!! & Thank the Stars for VAL DENHAM!!!

Listen in as Meri St. Mary talks with Debora Iyall, singer, lyricist & founding member of Romeo Void a band that had success from 1981-1985. In this hour Debora shares her experience as a high school drop out who studied poetry leading her to SF's Art Institute where Romeo Void was formed in an era of immense creativity that led to many other art bands of the burgeoning SF punk scene.
The band also rehearsed at Clubfoot (along w/the OFFS, chris isaack & many others). With the demise of the band, Debora began teaching art @ The American Indian Charter School emphasizing poetry. She relocated to the desert: 29 Palms (Joshua Tree) as an extreme residency specialist throughout the area. She attended Lewis & Clark College subsequently teaching at The Navajo Nation in Arizona & as a teacher she gave the gift that keeps on giving. In 2010 Debora began performing again & formed Dottie Records, had a successful Kickstarter Campaign & released 2 solo efforts: Stay Strong & Singing Til Sunrise. She's been busy doing art shows, spoken word, acoustic & has a new band that has played LA, SF, SAC & most recently Nevada City. She finds writing is of interest massaging the words & bringing colors & emotions to her pieces, Debora wears many artistic hats & carries herself with grace, dignity, humility & a healthy dose of humor as well as one of the hardest working women in the business (even taking questions from Tyler Cook & Monte Cazazza in studio A). In this hour she shares tidbits from her illustrious past & dreams for the future: she is on the edge as she wants to be, but in her heart wants to INSPIRE! So Git Yer Medicine Woman Wheel ON! and NEVER SAY NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tune in & listen as Meri St. Mary talks with Martin Atkins; musician, teacher, lecturer, author, independent label person, documentary filmmaker & dad. Martin has played with such groups as Brian Brain, Public Image Limited, Ministry, Pigface, Killing Joke & Damage Manuel and more. When I saw PiL in LA years back I knew these guys were talented smartypants, however, Martin has excelled in many other areas of artistic expression. He is the author of Tour:Smart, Welcome to the Music Buisiness You’re Fucked & the forthcoming Band: Smart as well as an honorary board member of Chicago based Rock for Kids. Martin is something akin to a slightly older brother who is an encyclopedia of USEFUL information that would behoove you to pay attention to. He is clever, funny & frank in this hour that ranges from putting on a great show, making compelling art to the marketing side of things, touring, the music & bands he recorded in China. Working with “allegedly at risk kids” he came up with the t-shirt “at risk for not being BORING!” & I personally am looking forward to “Kickstarter:Crackpipe” the 411 on navigating the labyrinth of dysfunction & OCD that is Kickstarter. Now go git yer Band:Smart on & get inspired & informed!

Tune in as Meri St. Mary talks with TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD a Hollywood based artiste of all trades who has been inspiring & upsetting folks while creating her own niche in the underground Hollywood scene. In true punk spirit (i.e. let’s put on a show cuz we don’t have a place to go) Tequila has gotten her punk historian on & is currently putting together a show in downtown LA entitled “A Case of the Punks” a Punk Rock Museum in collaboration with Ghetto Gloss & KGB Studios. Folks are converging from all over the planet to take part in this event, speaking of which, special guest DAVID WORTH of PUNK ROCK CARTOONS is on at the beginning of the interview all the way from Blackpool England (you will love him). Listen in to hear Tequila’s own opinions, point of view, humor & experience that are uniquely her own. The PUNK ROCK MUSEUM is opening this weekend, go go go (you can thank her in person) Oi! Now quit taking yourself so seriously, git your punk on & have some fun! DAMMIT!
This is a special edition of Down To Earth. Sienna is sitting in for Haines Ely on the Earth Mysteries Show.
Sienna Gold is a highly skilled intuitive and personal coach whose lighthearted approach helps people enjoy life with ease and a sense of humor.
Traditional metaphysical and new-age thinkers encourage you to release painful memories that cause suffering and just “let them go.” Sienna identifies emotional blocks and then offers a down-to-earth and practical way to look at old patterns and unconscious belief systems that are the root of unpleasant personal and professional experiences in your life. She then provides you with tools and strategies to honestly feel the effects of the past so that it no longer impinges upon the present.
Depression is today’s topic.
