YubaNet & KVMR presents "Are You Ready for High Fire Season?” a town hall at the Nevada Theatre. Local, state and federal firefighters, Nevada County OES and Sheriff’s personnel will give us an update on their preparations. They will recap fires they fought so far and the causes of these incidents – think mowers, burn piles and camp fires. County staff will provide an update on notification systems available to residents and explain the new notification categories.

Author Kim Edwards

Kim Edwards is the author of “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter,” a 122-week New York Times bestseller. It was published in 38 other countries and was a bestseller in nine other countries. She has received high accolades for her new release, “The Lake of Dreams.” Edwards won the Whiting Award and the Nelson Algren Award for her collection of short stories, “The Secret’s of a Fire King,” which was an alternate for the 1998 PEN/Hemingway Award. Her short stories have appeared in The Best American Short Stories, Ploughshares, Zoetrope, Antaeus, Story and The Paris Review and two were performed at Symphony Space and broadcast on Public Radio International.

Edwards also teaches writing at the University of Kentucky. She appeared at the Crest Theater in Sacramento Thursday, January 20th at 7:30 PM. Elisa is offering copies of Kim’s latest book, “The Lake of Dreams.” on See Jane Do during the KVMR membership drive.
